Clove Hitch
One of the most simple hitches, quick to tie but can be jerked loose and can jam, so should only be used as a temporary knot.
- Take the working end round the rail or post.
- complete a full turn round with the working end crossing the standing part.
- Continue around the rail or post one half turn. Thread the working end under the loop made by the crossover as marked by the arrow.
- Work the hitch tight, with the standing and working parts snug against each other.
