Thats good then, however Mrs Kitwood cannot make a confirmed decision until you are offered a position and all the medical stuff is sorted out. They'll probably write to your GP in the first instance and then call you down to Portsmouth for a specialist medical. You may be asked todo that peak flow for a month or so. Whatever you decide todo, do not put all your eggs in one basket, IME I have seen many a candidate turned down on medical grounds at the last minute!!!!

Thanks for the response Junior :-)
I did already ring the RFA nurse, Sharon Kitwood I think her name was, anyway I explained the asthma situation and told her how rarely I use my inhaler, literally once or twice a year and only then if there is a high pollen count. She said it didnt sound like it would be an issue but that I should go and have a review with my GP all the same. My GP said that I have pretty much grown out of it now and I did 550 on a peak flow test so the evidence is there :-)
As for the ECDL I think I will get it, like you say it will tick the box, and I guess anything else I have on top of that will be a bonus right?

Cheers for the help

I'd get the ecdl just to get the tick on the box. Your asthma cud b a problem, the rfa are moving towards the rn rules of being clear for 4 years of asthma symptoms & treatment (eg being prescribed inhalers and such like). Best thing is to speak to the rfa office 02392725923 speak to andy abt ur ecdl & ask for the rfa medical teams number to ask advice abt ur med condition.

ECDL

Postby MattyVigilante » Wed Apr 28, 2010 11:15 pm

Hi all,
Im really hoping to joing the RFA as a comms rating. (I did attempt to join the RN but due to my asthma I didn't get very far. My asthma isn't that bad, I did even go and have a review with my GP and she even said that i've pretty much grown out of it now.) Anyway back to my question, I have an NVQ level 3 in business administration which I got while doing an IT apprenticeship. Would that be enough instead of going for the ECDL? Or should I go for the ECDL as well?

Cheers for any responses
