hey hey hey all

Been i busy bee here at HMS Sultan

i left you off at week 13 where we had a nice long weekend home ( well needed) got back on Tuesday to start the HV course, this wasn't a maintenance course but more into the safety side and what different permits to works their are, it was death by power ponit.................. :(!! so that was a very short week,

week 14

S*£!, piss and dirty water, where does it all go!!!! well in week 14, we found out!!!! and it was quite interesting!!!!!! from storing it on board for 12 day to dumping it over the side, also starting about fuel systems on board how is gets on board how its cleaned on board right away to burning it, this went from week 14 to start 0f week 15, we learnt about the one thing that a RFA ship will never see or use..... GAS turbines !!!!!! WTF!!!! even the instructors said their is no point but we have to do it to get some many hours of class time for the apprenticeship which we had to in-role in. as well as the fuel systems, gas turbines we went onto gear boxes, as you can see 3 subjects into long big exam, alot of info we had to learn which we didn't even need to know about,

but it was the last exam today!!! we have never enough competed the theory side of the course, when we get to sea we will be given a task book to competed to show the practical side of the apprenticeship has been competed!.

on monday its going to be the most funniest week every, Sea survival, Fire fighting, damage control and basicly getting very very wet!!!!

so i'll leave you be. oh hey any "Q" you want to ask drop one a "PM".

goose dont worry about your pass, am a fully qualified IHCD medical technician and have been so for the past 2 years and have been in the RNLI for 8 but it doesn't matter because the trainers and the RFA staff here, will push u though.

we just keep our heads down, our nose clean and help each other out.

Liam, Thanks for the update glad things are going well for you. Just out of interest how are everybody in general finding the course, thinking along the lines of people on the course like myself in that this would be totally new having being in the construction industry for 20 years.

Sorry Ladies and gents for the delay!!!!

week 11

WoW what a week Starters and motors!!!!!

This is where all the last of 4 weeks come into play. a easy but head frying task for having a starter board doing all the test finding and fixing the faults, this is a test so if you ask for help one mark took off, leaving your panel open another mark off but if you get 3 marks or more, out of the room and fail....... but the instructor will give you a push by giving you a FULL days brief (no point !!!. start the test piece, you are given about a max of 2 hours to do this, i done it in a hour twenty but it has been done in 45mins.

after that it was keyskills which you have to do for the modern apprenticeships (which we are in-rolled in) you have to do 5 keyskills, Maths, English, IT, working with others and improving your own learning. we got the maths, English and IT done in the first few weeks of the course , but with the other two its essays and pictures mostly (pain in the banned word really).

week 12

Fresh water and vents

Back to class room, back to trying to stay awake!!!!!! this is all about where how we get fresh water from the sea into drinkable water, and what type of vents system we need on the ship (and their are a few)!!!

On Wednesday we went back to HMS Bristol and this time we stayed over the night.....Yeah it was a 24 man mess on board and yeah it was only a night but it does give you a feeling of life on broad.... that night, pubs (of course) it ended up with long games of knuckles and arm wrestling in Spoons lol Thursday we done blanket searches on board , where if an attack happens hits a ship, its a search of damage and pipe wiping, perpear to get wet!!! a pipe with a 12" slice thought it, with a piece of rubber, rope and sticky tape you learn how to stop it then test it!!!!!.......

starting of week 13 will be HV (hight Voltage!!!)

cya next week

Sorry for the delay been a busy week's!!!!

WEEK 9

From GPTME to Craft!

Craft was the most annoying, fiddly and surprisingly easy! Of our craft we learn to De-solder PCB boards, soldering and wire striping. For the first few days it was playing around with the boards learning how to put it all together. At the end we had to do a test piece, which for us was making a basic bridge rectifier and a few questions at the end. On the same week we had to re-wire a lighting board which entails of ripping the wire out and replacing it, easy you say, well it is but it does take a fair bit of time! The Lighting board is also part of the test piece of craft.

Week 10

SBT scenario base training.
Here is where AC theory, GPTME, craft all come together!

This is a fun but also a head frying week with 6 different scenario to play with. From the captains pantily to the kitchen, the lighting deck then the weather deck, finding cabin faults and more craft. This park of the week is a mix from writing and practical assiments working with Live electricy and I can personality tell you it hurts!!!

In week 11 (today)

We will start Staters&motors and Keyskills :(

Type u next Week

End of week 8 and the start of week 9

Week 8

Class was split into two groups.

Group "A" Did GPTME "General Purpose Test and Measuring Equipment" which is the hand held test equipment to find flauts on ciruits, then for them start doing craft ( making your own Chip board)

Group "B", about 90 % is death by Buzzing Hub (like power point) and the other is going to see all the different types of breakers and switchs, then we are now just stating GPTME.

in other news, between week 8 and 9 we move block, where we are now their is two messes with 7 in each normally the mess can hold about 15, so their is alot of room. we are moving this week to another 4 man mess ( i would like to stay in the bigger mess but got to move)

Still i can't wait until we get to sea!
