    Bowline knot

Probably the most useful fixed loop knot, the bowline is easy to tie and is very reliable as it does not easily slip or jam tight, with many variations this is the most basic.

    1. Make a loop, with the working end passing over the standing part, and turn the end back towards the loop.
      make loop
    2. Pass the working end through the loop from the back.

    3. turn the working end behind the standing part.
      end behind
    4. Bring the working end round and back to the front of the loop. Thread the working end through the front of the loop
      through loop again
    5. With the working end through the loop work the knot tight while leaving a suitable size of working loop.
