RFA Reliance and the Dardanelles campaign.
Roger Tipton has asked for information on RFA Reliance during the First World War. The reason is that a member of his wifes family has recently passed away and amongst her possessions was found a hand embroidered cushion.
The cushion features a picture of RFA Reliance, the name is below the picture, and the word Mudros (a Greek Island used as a base for the Dardanelles campaign) is above the picture, the whole is surrounded by flowers, everything is hand embroidered.
It is assumed the cushion (cover) was made by a member of the crew of the ship as a memento of his time on board whilst based at Mudros. Roger has already found out that the Reliance was the ex-Knight Commander, a 3250 ton vessel, length 470 feet, beam 57 feet 9 inches capable of a speed of 11 knots built in 1910 and acquired by the RFA in 1913.
If anyone can provide him with any further information about the activities of RFA Reliance during WW 1 he would be very grateful.
