RFA, RN, and RM Selection process procedures and practice test booklet on the web

RFA, RN, and RM Selection process procedures and practice test booklet on the web

A procedures and practice test booklet has been made available on the web which details the selection process for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, Royal Navy, and Royal Marines.

The booklet also has examples of questions given in the Recruiting Test, and gives examples of reasoning, verbal ability, numeracy, and mechanical comprehension (with the answers!)

The "Guidance for your interview" section explains why they use an interview, what it will be like, the type of things that you will be asked questions about at the interview, and most importantly how to prepare for the interview.

You can find the booklet here

RFA Cluster shipyard strike is off after new pay deal is reached

RFA Cluster shipyard strike is off after new pay deal is reached

Unions and managers of Northwestern Shiprepairers and Shipbuilders at Birkenhead’s former Cammell Laird shipyard have agreed a pay deal that has staved off industrial action that could have effected Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels returning to operations in time.

A vote for industrial action by GMB members after a “miserly” 2.8% pay offer has now been called off, Northwestern Shiprepairers and Shipbuilders have agreed a three-year deal with the GMB and Unite, the Liverpool daily post reports that it will "provide 'certainty and stability' for the business, its staff and its customers".

The pay deal has not yet been disclosed but it believed to be “above inflation” pay rise, meanwhile the RFA are still waiting for the Treasury to reply to the last pay claim submission.

Read more about the story at the Liverpool daily post.

The backbone of the Royal Navy

The backbone of the Royal Navy

This is how the Mayor of Portland Sandy West described the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, at RFA Lyme Bay's service of dedication in Portland.

The Daily Echo reported Portland's Mayor as saying "I'm very proud to be here. My husband, brother and nephew have all worked in the RFA. It's not just about supplying ammunition, it's the backbone of the Royal Navy."

The service of dedication of RFA Lyme Bay had been postponed for a year due to various operations around the world. Ranging from exercises in Norway to 'Operation ZEST' where she sailed to Tristan da Cunha in the South Atlantic (the remotest island in the world), to conduct emergency repairs to the island's main harbour before the onset of winter.

The dediction was attended by the lady sponsor of the ship, Lady Fry, along with dignitaries and families of the crew.

The RFA Association Need Your Help

The RFA Association Need Your Help

The RFA Association has gained the right to the title "Force 4" and the association had hoped to get it going earlier this year.

For many reasons, this did not happen, The Chairman of the RFA Association wants to change that.

He would like to make Force4 a journal that reflects the RFA Association as a whole both at management and, more importantly, membership levels so that they have a journal the membership will look forward to.

So how can you help. Topics that you might be able to contribute to:-

Forthcoming events.
Something historical.
Salty dits.
Would you like to remark on the passing of a shipmate.
Things For sale.
The Galley Radio (Rumour control (as long as it is not libelous)).

Please Send your dits to :- Chairman@rfa-association.org

Commodore who of the RFA?

Commodore who of the RFA?

Stephen Bailey writing about the latest Airshow in the Bournemouth Echo has quoted a Commodore Jamie Miller(?) of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, stating that he would like to bring "a marine invasion force and an American warship next year".

With the latest defence cuts, will we have a navy next year, let alone a marine invasion force available to invade Bournemouth everyday of the Airshow!

He has also suggested "a Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra concert from the decks of a ship with the cliffs as a natural amphitheatre.", that's all well and good as long as they don't mind the noise of the diesels and the fumes if the wind is in the wrong direction!

Read more about the airshow and Commodore Jamie Miller at the Daily Echo.

Royal Navy Landing Craft stopped by MCA

Royal Navy Landing Craft stopped by MCA

The Royal Navy had been using landing craft for the trips out to the RFA Mounts Bay, until the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) stepped in.

It is reported in this is dorset that "The MCA told the Royal Fleet Auxiliary that the landing craft lacked the right certificates for commercial boats" (How the Royal Navy's landng craft can be classed as commercial I will never know, when was the last time the armed services ever made money?).

The Royal Fleet Auxiliary then had to charter two boats so that people could enjoy free tours they'd been promised after queuing at the Sea Cadet stand.
