This is how the Mayor of Portland Sandy West described the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, at RFA Lyme Bay's service of dedication in Portland.
The Daily Echo reported Portland's Mayor as saying "I'm very proud to be here. My husband, brother and nephew have all worked in the RFA. It's not just about supplying ammunition, it's the backbone of the Royal Navy."
The service of dedication of RFA Lyme Bay had been postponed for a year due to various operations around the world. Ranging from exercises in Norway to 'Operation ZEST' where she sailed to Tristan da Cunha in the South Atlantic (the remotest island in the world), to conduct emergency repairs to the island's main harbour before the onset of winter.
The dediction was attended by the lady sponsor of the ship, Lady Fry, along with dignitaries and families of the crew.
